PORT CLINTON — Former state representative Steve Kraus wants a new trial.
Kraus, convicted of felony theft and booted from the statehouse in July 2015, thinks it’s possible his case was contaminated by former Ottawa County prosecutor Mark Mulligan.
In a motion filed Tuesday, attorney Geoffrey Oglesby argued Kraus was denied a fair trial, and, therefore, deserves another chance in court.
Kraus was accused of stealing items from a Danbury Township home in April 2014. The investigation remained under wraps until late September 2014, and Kraus was not indicted until after his upset victory over former state rep. Chris Redfern in November 2014.
